At the age of 18 on February 11, 1945, Jean Iris Ostrow began her US Cadet Nursing Corp, committing to serve for the duration of World War II. She took care of soldiers who couldn't be treated in the field that had been flown back to San Diego, California. She graduated in February 1948 and began her civilian career working with premature babies in the hospital children's ward.
Jean became mother to David Ostrow, Sam's son from a previous marriage. He proceeded his parents by entering the kingdom of heaven in 1974.
In 1950, Sam and Jean welcomed their firstborn child - Karen Jeanette
Robert Louis, was welcomed to their family in 1952.
The youngest son, Richard Frederick, was born to Sam and Jean in 1956.
On July 3, 1949, Jean Beven married the love of her life Sam Ostrow. They were happily married for 70 years.
Jean would welcome six grandchildren into her family. With a loving heart, she watched her grandchildren grow into adults and begin their own families.
